MIT hosts Learning Curve Share Fair

April 16, 2010

On March 25th, MIT and OEIT hosted 100 teachers and educators for Learning Curve's Share Fair.

With a focus on technology and teaching within Massachusetts school districts, the Learning Curve consortium provides ongoing professional development and networking opportunties in the K-12 area. Learning Curve's Share Fair was an ideal venue for selected MIT faculty to highlight a handful of exciting educational outreach initiatives that partner with the K-12 sector.  These initiatives, currently in development throughout the institute, and are described in more detail below.

Mitch Resnick from the Media Lab gave an overview of Scratch, a game-creation programming engine for young learners. Dan Livengood introduced BLOSSOMS,  a free repository of video modules for the high school STEM curriculum.

Kathy Vandiver (shown above) demonstrated "the Cell", an interactive module from MIT Museum's Learning Lab. Pictured above is Dr Vandiver counting votes during a polling exercise that encourages independent thought among participants.

Eric Klopfer (shown above) spoke of the several innovative projects for handheld devices and educational games for students currently being explored in the Scheller Teacher Education Program.
