Network for Content and Curriculum

November 5, 2008

A meeting co-hosted by OEIT and the PERSEE project at the University Lumière Lyon II.

November 5th and 6th at MIT

Who is attending:

Practitioners, planners, project PIs, sponsors and other interested parties who are involved with efforts around the development, discovery and dissemination of digital educational and scholarly content.

Agenda:

This meeting will showcase the work of the PERSEE project, a program created for the digital publication of French scientific journals in the field of the humanities with the goal of open access and interoperability. We are very excited about this effort at Lyon II and believe that Persee's process, techniques and focus on openness and interoperable access provides a useful model for further efforts in this area. We are eager to expose this leading edge effort to our colleagues.

We also plan to take advantage of this gathering to launch a focused discussion on the establishment of a network for content and the curriculum as a strategy for augmenting the access and use of digital content resources, i.e. enabling scholars, students and researchers to access and manipulate the content they need, from any and all applications they might choose to use for teaching and learning.

Discussion will focus on the following areas::

  • Open Educational Resources Discovery and Re-Mix
  • Access, Discovery and Translation of Scientific Journals
  • Image Content and Image Tools
  • Institutional Repositories
  • Intellectual Property issues relating to Access and Re-Mix
  • Federation of Content, and Discovery and Repository Services

The goal of these discussions is to lead to some or all of the following outcomes:

  • Identification of key challenges and opportunities for accessing and using digital content in education, leading to
  • Goals of the network for content and the curriculum.
  • Identifying potential participants and focus areas for nodes/centers in the network
  • Next steps towards action
