OCWC May 3-6

April 5, 2011

Celebrate 10 years of OpenCourseWare by joining us for the OpenCourseWare Consortium Global 2011 Meeting in Cambridge, MA May 4-6 (with pre-conference workshops on May 3).

Keynote Speaker: Tim O'Reilly

Tim O'Reilly is the founder and CEO of O'Reilly Media, Inc., thought by many to be the best computer book publisher in the world. Over the years, Tim has built a culture where sustainable innovation is a key tenet of business philosophy. His active engagement with technology communities both drives the company's product development and informs its marketing. Tim joins us as we explore the future of open courseware and open education.

Reflections on Ten Years of OpenCourseWare

OCWC Global 2011 will have a series of panel discussions that explore:

  • MIT's institutional decision to launch OpenCourseWare;
  • The growth of the OpenCourseWare movement at Tufts, Johns Hopkins, and through consortia including Japan OCW, CORE and Universia;
  • Emerging OpenCourseWare projects in Brazil, Turkey and the African Virtual University; and
  • The view from Foundations on what's next for OpenCourseWare and Open Educational Resources.

Three Tracks to Explore OpenCourseWare

Impact of OCW: The number and use of OpenCourseWare courses continues to grow. Sessions in this theme focus on how OCWs are being used and what we are learning from analytics and evaluation about their use. We also examine innovative forms of OCW use and the integration of OCWs with the existing education system.

Producing OCW: We reflect on the challenges and solutions developed over the last decade of producing OpenCourseWares. Sessions in this theme examine what we have learned from a decade of publication of OCW courses and from the design of the courses. We examine how we might do differently and how we might improve the OCW experience.

Next Generation "Open" Learning: This conference is a celebration of our momentum: all are invited to join discussions about shaping the future of OpenCourseWare. Sessions in this theme examine OCW as part of the open educational resources movement, and look forward at the next generation of OpenCourseWare.
