Rhourd (Star-Shaped Draa), when fully developped, form large star-shaped rosettes with a central high peak, radiating arms, and superposed smaller dunes of various forms and orientations. Because of the complex form, rhourds are believed to be formed by intense, multidirectional winds. The heights range from a few meters to over 40 m. Larger rhourds are commonly located in close proximity to coarse alluvium; the height decreases with a reduction in grain size.
