1.4.1 Sand Sheets

Sand sheets are flat to undulating features common in interior sand seas, particularly around the margins of dune fields. The internal bedding usually ranges from horizontal to 20 degrees. The foreset beds have angular basal contacts in contrast to the asymptotic foresets of dunes. Because the low topographic relief creates a low stream gradient, streams flowing from steeper terrain deposit gravel; silt and clay also accumulate from flood waters ponded in depressions.
