4.7.9 Solution Pans

Solution pans are dish shaped depressions usually partially covered with a thin layer of algal remains, clay, silt, or gravel. Corrosion is concentrated on the steep, overhanging sides where the rock is not covered. These features form on partially covered karst where the water action can be directed by the soil. The cover will also retain the water, allowing sustained solution.
