6.3.1.2 Bayhead Beach

Along shorelines with inlets (bays) and headlands, the beaches that form at the farthest inland extent of the bay are called bayhead beaches. Most of the wave energy is dissipated when the waves refract toward the headlands where erosion is concentrated. In the bays, however, the waves are divergent from the bayhead so that deposition is favored over erosion.
