8.2 Vulcanism Intrusive Igneous Bodies

Large solidified masses of magma that cooled beneath the surface of the earth are called plutons. Plutons can be classified as tabular, meaning that one dimension is much greater than the others (the pluton does not necessarily have to be horizontal), or massive, meaning that the pluton is very large and not planar.
