8.3.7.8 Lava Tunnel

A lava tunnel or lava tube/cave is a hollow space beneath the surface of a solidified lava flow, formed by the withdrawl of molten lava after a surficial crust has been created. In some cases, blister cones (surficial swelling of the crust of a lava flow due to the expansion of gasses or vapours beneath the surface of the flow) may be associated with lava tunnels.
