8.5.3 Fumarole

A fumarole is a fissure or hole in the earth's crust from which steam and gases, are emitted under pressure. A fumarole is frequently found in a volcanic region; the steam is produced by magma beneath the surface, when the volcano itself has probably ceased to erupt.
