2.1.1.2 Progradation Phase

Progradation is the depositional process where material entering a depositional environment (for example, a basin) is added to the margin. The depositional units are usually sigmoidally shaped ("S" shaped) with the characteristic bottomset, foreset, and topset bedding. Progradational stratigraphic sequences usually coarsen upward.
