2.1.1.3 Lateral Accretion Phase

Lateral accretion is the depositional phase where transported sediment within a basin or river preferentially accumulates against the margin. Lateral accretion produces sigmoidal ("S" shaped) depositional units which are upward fining stratigraphic sequences.
