2.4.3.4 Pediment

Pediments are the gently sloping bedrock slopes which dip toward the floor of a basin. A sharp break occurs in the slope where the pediment meets the mountain front. Pediments are caused by the erosion of the mountain front. The eroded material often lies in either a bajada or an alluvial fan below the pediment.
