3.4.1 Swamps

Because the topography of glaciated areas has been shaped by abrasion and deposition of till rather than by stream erosion, the land often lacks well developed drainage systems, but consists of a variety of non-connected depressions so that the run off can not be removed. Infiltration can also be poor if the till contains a large proportion of silt and clay. As a result, swampy areas tend to develop.
