OEIT to partner with MA community colleges for online training

October 16, 2013

The Office of Educational Innovation and Technology (OEIT/ODL) is collaborating with Massachusetts community colleges to develop technology-enabled components to expand training opportunities in advanced manufacturing. Collaborating faculty will work together in areas where technology - through the delivery of online course material, simulations and gaming technology - will allow community colleges to expand limited lab space to increase hands-on learning, an essential element of manufacturing training.

Technology-enabled modules in the Transformation Agenda programs are being developed to meet current employer needs to accelerate the pace at which students attain credentials and enter the labor market.  These modules will prepare community college audiences for careers in advanced manufacturing. All materials produced will be open educational resources and thus promise to enhance Massachusetts manufacturing training from high school through 4- year institutions, as well colleges nationally and internationally.

The partnership was announced by Governor Duval Patrick with Vijay Kumar at a ceremony on Oct 4, 2013.
