2.4.1.4 Chute Cutoff

Chute cutoffs occur in meandering stream channels when floodwaters cause a channel to form across a point bar or other area of land so that the meander loop no longer contains the stream flow. This feature may develop over a long period of time with only floodwater flow at first. The cut off meander may become filled with sediment from overbank flow to create a channel fill deposit.
