3.1.2 Valley Glaciers

A valley glacier or alpine glacier is a glacier which is confined within a mountain valley. Usually, the valley the glacier occupies was previously a stream valley. Valley glaciers are generally longer than they are wide, and they can range in length from less than a kilometer to many tens of kilometers. Valley glaciers leave behind u-shaped valleys after they have retreated.
